dotLottie to JSON Converter

Drop a .lottie file to extract its Lottie JSON, with images inlined so it plays anywhere. Works the other way too. Free up to 50 MB, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

.json → .lottie and .lottie → .json Runs in your browser, no uploads Free up to 50 MB

1. Drop your .lottie

Any dotLottie file, for example one downloaded from LottieFiles or exported by a design tool.

2. JSON extracted

The archive is unzipped in your browser, the first animation is read and its images are inlined as data URIs.

3. Download & shrink

The JSON is uncompressed text, so it is larger than the .lottie. Run it through the Lottie Compressor to round numbers, strip metadata and convert images to WebP.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I convert a .lottie file to JSON?

Some players and tools only accept plain Lottie JSON — for example lottie-web's loadAnimation with animationData, older versions of mobile Lottie libraries, or editors and scripts that read the JSON directly. Extracting the JSON also lets you inspect or edit the animation in a code editor.

What happens to the images inside the .lottie?

A dotLottie archive can store images as separate files. TinyLottie inlines them into the JSON as base64 data URIs, so the extracted JSON is self-contained and plays on its own.

My .lottie contains several animations. Which one do I get?

The converter extracts the first animation listed in the archive's manifest.

Will the JSON be bigger than the .lottie?

Usually yes. A .lottie is a ZIP archive, so its contents are compressed; the plain JSON is not. If size matters, run the extracted JSON through the Lottie Compressor, and serve it with gzip or Brotli.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Extraction runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
